Side Effects

Watched this last night. Not much to say about it really. It starts off with what the viewer thinks is an exposé - or at least story about - the pharmaceutical industry and what it's doing to ordinary folk, how medics and professionals are making a fat wodge of cash out of experimenting with humans etc., and ends up being something of a formulaic thriller about crossing and double-crossing, deceit and things being not quite as they seem.

It feels in the end a bit like a 1990's thriller which hasn't broken out of the 20th century. Don't get me wrong, it's enjoyable enough and Jude Law plays his role as a doctor in the middle of it all by-the-numbers. He's not stretched, but as usual, commands the screen. Those around him don't add much, sadly, and feel like they're not really trying very hard. Even the Darling Bud of May Catherine Zeta-Jones, who normally brings something rather than nothing.

So, nothing to write home about but worth a look if you haven't, one rainy Saturday afternoon when you don't have something better to do.
